Matt Thomson, Associate
Matt concentrates his practice on intellectual property and technology transactions, and on compliance with the thicket of state and federal laws governing commerce on the Internet. Due to Matt’s great personal interest in online media and intellectual property issues, he feels at home tackling complicated new media legal issues for the firm on a daily basis.
Before joining Kronenberger Burgoyne, Matt held business development and legal positions with eMusic.com, the Recording Industry Association of America, the Software & Information Industry Association and the International Intellectual Property Institute. Matt has written extensively on peer-to-peer file sharing networks and their impact on copyright law, and he remains passionate about the Internet’s role in shaping the face of entertainment and media. “Our clients demonstrate on an ongoing basis how technology and business models are changing at Internet speed," he says. "It’s our job to stay ahead of the technology curve so that we are able to help them negotiate that cutting edge.”
Matt has a master’s degree (LLM) in Intellectual Property from the George Washington Law School, where he focused on the intersection of intellectual property law and technology. Matt also graduated with honors from the University of California Santa Barbara with a degree in Film Studies, and he received his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington. Matt is a member of the State Bar of California and the Bar Association of San Francisco.
